Minor Piercing Policy – Skin City Tattoo & Body Piercing

At Skin City Tattoo & Body Piercing, we take safety, consent, and professionalism seriously.
Every piercing — especially for minors — requires proper identification, communication, and preparation to ensure a safe and positive experience.

All minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian with valid photo ID.

  • A valid state-issued photo ID is required from the parent or legal guardian, and a bona fide photo ID is required from the minor.
If last names or addresses do not match, additional documentation will be required.

    Acceptable Photo ID for Adults:

    • Valid state-issued driver’s license or ID card

    • Passport (may be used in place of a state ID)

    Acceptable Photo ID for Minors:

    • School-issued photo ID card

    • State-issued ID card

    • Learner’s permit or driver’s license

    • Passport

If a parent and child have different last names or addresses, you must provide official and original documentation proving the relationship, such as:

    • The child’s birth certificate, or

    • Court documentation showing custody or guardianship

All documentation must be physical certified copies.
📵 Digital images, photocopies, or home-printed documents will not be accepted.

    Special Circumstances:
If guardianship has been court-appointed to another adult, or in cases of emancipation, a court order must be provided to verify the change.

If you’re unsure whether your documentation qualifies, please call us at (503) 624-1719 or email skincity@hotmail.com before your appointment.

Failure to provide proper ID will result in cancellation of your appointment.
A $40 service fee may apply to each missed service due to invalid documentation.

Appointments may be rescheduled at no cost if cancelled at least 24 hours in advance.

  • Our age minimums are based on anatomical development, emotional maturity, and lifestyle factors.
While most minors can be pierced at their appointment, scheduling does not guarantee that a piercing will be performed.
Prepare your child that the visit may become a consultation if needed.

  • At Skin City, “beginning piercings” include earlobes (single or pair), jewelry changes, piercing checkups, and removals.
These are quick-healing and low-pain — ideal for a first piercing experience.

    • Sara and Jay (Jeric) work with ages 7–9

    • Megan work with ages 10 and up

  • Includes nostril, helix, conch, and second–third earlobes.
Requires prior successful piercings and a longer healing time (up to 1 year).
Clean twice daily; jewelry cannot be replaced with a clear retainer until healed.

Septum piercings may be performed as young as 15 shop-wide.
If your child is 14 +, Megan or Sara can evaluate readiness during a consultation.

  • Advanced piercings include navel, lip, eyebrow, daith, and rook.
    These are anatomy- and lifestyle-dependent.
Your piercer will conduct an anatomy check and discuss whether healing is likely to be successful.

If anatomy isn’t ideal, you may choose another piercing instead.
Arrive with backup options in mind.

  • We do not perform the following on minors:

    • Nipple or genital piercings

    • Industrial, tongue, bridge, surface, or anchor/dermal piercings

  • Sara and Jay (Jeric) — both skilled at working with young clients — provide earlobe piercings for children ready for their first experience.
Please choose the correct appointment type when booking:
Earlobes (pair) Ages 7–9 or Earlobes (single) Ages 7–9.

  • When piercing children’s lobes, we require they are at least 7 years old and can clearly express they want the piercing.

    Readiness & Communication

We look for minors who can:

    • Speak comfortably with the piercer

    • Listen carefully and follow instructions

    • Understand and repeat aftercare directions

Integrity and informed consent are essential for a positive piercing experience.

    Piercer Discretion

All procedures are performed at the piercer’s discretion.
If anatomy, environment, or maturity suggest risk, the piercer may postpone or suggest an alternative.

    Health & Risk Awareness

Even with proper care, all piercings carry some risk.
    Possible complications include:

    • Infection

    • Rejection

    • Scarring or keloids

    • Gum or tooth damage (oral piercings)

    • Nerve irritation

Some cases may require medical or dental attention.
It’s important that both the client and guardian understand these risks before giving consent.
